Hello there!

Every week I talk to Amazon sellers who say the same thing:

“I tried using ChatGPT… but the output wasn’t great.”

And every time, the reason is the same:

It’s not the AI that’s the problem — it’s how you’re using it.

Weak ChatGPT results come from unclear prompts, missing context, or expecting AI to think like a seller.

Today, I want to show you the most common mistakes sellers make with ChatGPT — and how to fix them instantly.

Let’s get into it. 👇

Mistake #1: Expecting ChatGPT to “Guess”

Most sellers type something vague like:

“Write me Amazon bullet points for my product.”

And then they’re disappointed when the output sounds generic.

Fix: Give Context, Not Commands

ChatGPT performs at the level of detail you give it.

Better prompt:

“Act as an Amazon listing specialist. Write 5 bullet points for a BPA-free collapsible water bottle. Target eco-conscious hikers. Keep the tone minimal and benefit-focused. Highlight portability, durability, and environmental impact.”

Mistake #2: Asking for Final Copy Instead of Iterating

Sellers often try to get the perfect output in one shot.

But the best results come from back-and-forth shaping, exactly like briefing a human copywriter.

Fix: Use a 3-step workflow

First draft: “Write a rough version focusing on X.”

Refinement: “Rewrite this with more benefit-driven language.”

Optimization: “Make this compliant, scannable, and under 250 characters.”

Mistake #3: Not Feeding ChatGPT Your Existing Branding

Many sellers forget to include:

  • Brand voice

  • Value prop

  • Differentiators

  • Competitor weaknesses

So ChatGPT writes in “Amazon style,” which feels robotic.

Fix: Train ChatGPT on your voice

Prompt:

“Here are two examples of my brand voice. Learn the tone and rewrite my product description with the same style.”

This gives you brand-consistent content instead of generic filler.

Mistake #4: Using ChatGPT for SEO Without Guardrails

If you say “add keywords,” ChatGPT sometimes over-optimizes and produces keyword stuffing that Amazon hates.

Fix: Give SEO constraints

Prompt:

“Insert secondary keywords naturally. Do not repeat keywords. Do not over-optimize. Keep the copy human and compliant with Amazon style guidelines.”

This keeps your listing both readable and indexable.

Mistake #5: Not Asking for Multiple Versions

Getting just one version of anything (title, bullets, description) limits your ability to test.

Fix: Always request variations

Prompt:

“Give me 3 versions of this bullet point:

– One emotional

– One premium

– One short and punchy”

Your best copy is usually version #2 or #3 — not the first draft.

Final Thoughts

The sellers who complain that ChatGPT “doesn’t work” all have one thing in common:

They expect magic from a one-sentence prompt.

But the sellers who win — the ones writing clear, strategic, high-converting Amazon copy — do these things consistently:

👉 They give context.

👉 They iterate.

👉 They feed the model data.

👉 They match brand voice.

👉 They use variations.

If you fix these mistakes, your results with AI won’t just improve — they’ll transform.
